San Francisco State University Graduation Photos with Arisha
There is something quietly electric about a graduation session at SF State. The campus carries weight — four years of early mornings, late nights, and everything in between compressed into a single afternoon of golden light and a purple-and-gold gown. When Arisha booked her session, she brought exactly that energy: composed, radiant, and genuinely ready to celebrate.
We started at the iconic SF State entrance sign on Winston Drive — one of my favorite starting points for graduation portraits in San Francisco. The landscaping around it is lush even on overcast days, giving us clean, natural backgrounds that let the subject breathe. Arisha worked every angle with ease: standing tall in her white dress, holding her cap high, doing a playful one-leg kick that looked completely effortless. She had the kind of presence in front of the camera that makes every frame worth keeping.
After the campus section, we moved into the garden area tucked behind the main buildings — a spot most people walk past without realizing how well it photographs. The rock formations and layered greenery gave us a completely different look: earthy, textured, editorial. In full regalia, Arisha sat on the rocks and walked through the garden paths in a way that felt natural and genuinely her, not staged.
The session closed at the Palace of Fine Arts, a location that never disappoints. As golden hour crept in, the warm copper arches and reflecting lagoon transformed everything. We got the classic shots in front of the dome, walked under the colonnade between the columns, and closed out with a champagne pop that froze the moment perfectly — Arisha laughing and letting it all go everywhere, which is exactly the point.
If you are an SF State grad planning your session, this is what a full multi-location graduation day looks like. Two hours, two locations — campus and one of San Francisco's most beautiful landmarks — and a set of images that captures both the milestone and the person behind it.
