About this location
Grad sessions at Santa Clara
Santa Clara University is one of the most photogenic campuses in the South Bay — the historic Mission, manicured gardens, and Spanish-revival architecture give grad portraits a warm, timeless feel that very few Bay Area campuses can match. I've shot grad sessions across the South Bay and know which SCU spots hold the best light through the afternoon, which areas stay quiet on busy ceremony days, and how to route a session so you get real variety without ever feeling rushed.
Santa Clara sessions include a $70 travel fee from San Francisco.
Spring graduation season (June) books quickly — inquire early if you have a specific date in mind.

Where we shoot at Santa Clara
Mission Santa Clara de Asís
The signature SCU landmark. The adobe facade and bell wall make a warm, instantly recognizable backdrop. Best in late afternoon when the light turns golden against the stucco.
Mission Gardens & Rose Garden
Lush, manicured beds and mature roses just steps from the Mission. Soft, even light and plenty of color — ideal for close, editorial compositions.
Palm-Lined Walkway (The Alameda entrance)
Tall palms and clean symmetry frame portraits beautifully down the central walkway. Strong depth and a polished, collegiate feel.
Abby Sobrato Mall
The open central lawn with mature trees and room to move. Works especially well for wide shots, group photos, and the classic cap-toss.

Timing & light
Best time for Santa Clara grad photos
Mission Santa Clara is at its best in late afternoon, when the light turns golden against the adobe and stucco. The Mission Gardens and Rose Garden hold soft, even light a little earlier, so we can start in the gardens and finish at the Mission as it glows.
Wardrobe
What to wear at Santa Clara
SCU's warm Spanish-revival architecture and lush gardens suit earth tones, cream, and soft jewel colors; the greenery and roses already give plenty of color, so a simpler outfit keeps the focus on you. The campus is flat and walkable, so most footwear works fine.
Common questions
Santa Clara grad photo FAQ
What are the best photo spots at Santa Clara University?
Mission Santa Clara de Asís is the signature backdrop, along with the Mission Gardens and Rose Garden, the palm-lined Alameda walkway, and the open Abby Sobrato Mall.
When's the best light at the Mission?
Late afternoon — the golden light on the adobe facade is the sweet spot, while the gardens nearby stay soft and even a little earlier in the day.
Can we shoot during SCU graduation season?
Yes. June commencement is the busiest time, so reach out early if you'd like a session close to your ceremony date.
Can family and friends join the session?
Of course — group and family frames are part of most grad sessions, and I keep them quick and well-organized.
